Can Tho University received the delegation of Sumitomo (Japan)

On June 20th 2012, Can Tho University (CTU) warmly received the delegation of Sumitomo, led by Mr. Muraki, Group Leader of Sumitomo Forestry and Mr. Maruyama, Group Leader of Sumitomo Metal. Welcoming the delegation was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Viet Dung – CTU Vice Rector along with responsible staff members.

At the reception, CTU and the delegation of Sumitomo discussed and came into mutual agreement in activities of implementing the project on “New Alkaline Fertilizer for improving soil fertility and agricultural production in Vietnam”, which is carried out experiments in representative plots of the Mekong Delta’s provinces. The project aims to examine and evaluate the impacts of New Alkaline Fertilizer on the productivity and quality of the agricultural products in the Mekong Delta. Since then, CTU will be able to provide reasonable recommendations to the farmers in the Mekong Delta: whether they should use this fertilizer.
The projected started from June 2012, lasting four years. Accordingly, College of Agriculture and Applied Biotechnology and College of Environment and Natural Resources of CTU are directly responsible for conducting the experiments on the plots of local farmers in Mekong Delta’s provinces. Selected plants to experiment are rice, guava, peanut, sugar cane, pineapple, pepper and mangosteen.
