Opening ceremony for Vietnam National Project of Foreign Language 2020

On July 16th 2012, Can Tho University (CTU) held the opening ceremony for the training courses of "Strengthening the capacity in English Proficiency and English Teaching Methods for teachers of primary and secondary schools " under National Project of Foreign Language 2020 (NPFL 2020) of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam (MOET). The teachers involved in this training are from seven provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam: Can Tho, Hau Giang, Tra Vinh, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau. The ceremony was honored to welcome the delegation of the management board of NPFL 2020, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Van Que, Deputy Chairman of NPFL 2020 and representatives of leaders of provincial departments of education and training of seven provinces and cities mentioned. Participants at CTU’s side were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Xe - CTU Vice Rector along with leader representatives of School of Education, School of Social Sciences and humanities and responsible staff.

Upon to the tendency of strong international integration nowadays, it is demanded that the teaching of foreign languages in general and in particular English, which has been used world-wide, must have strategic innovations to suit the learners’ need - the use of languages in effective communication. To meet the demand, it is necessary to update the teaching methodology and empower the teaching capacity of the language teachers. Accordingly, CTU is one of the core universities that receives full and strong belief of the MOET in teaching and training qualities to be involved in the project as the trainer. At first, CTU has been assigned to train to empower the teaching capacity for primary and high schools of seven provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta under the project NPFL 2020 of Vietnam.
